Itching is an uncomfortable irritation feeling in the upper layer of the skin, generally resulting from mild spur of pain receptors. The medical name for itching is pruritus. Itching automatically aggravate scratching. Generally scratching does not provide a cure and, certainly, may worsen itching as well as cause other problems, like bleeding or infection. Itching is a common problem and it can be localized (i.e. limited to some part of the body) or generalized (i.e. taking place on the whole body or in numerous different body parts). Generalized itching is more difficult to cure than localized itching.
There are many causes of itching like insect bites, poison ivy and mainly skin diseases. Skin disease particularly Eczema is generally a sign of a general condition. Itches can also arise with or without skin lesions. An itch that is come with visible skin defect usually should be treated by a physician or by a dermatologist because the problem is expected to be a condition that requires particular medical treatment.
